California's Environmental Justice Law
A California state law, passed in 2017, known as AB 617 was supposed to create a “groundbreaking program to measure and combat air pollution at the neighborhood level.” Four years and nearly $1 billion later, has it made a difference?
These images are from Stockton, California, one of 15 targeted communities that was supposed to see reductions in air pollution from AB 617 and its environmental justice component.
Working with CalMatters.org, we looked at the sources of pollution in the community, and talked with long-time residents, community activists and local elected officials to see if they are seeing any improvements in air quality.
